- Read the response in the interface intended for that code and inspect the stated reward. A fishing phrase rejected by the lobby box does not test the fishing-chat route.

- If the correct route still rejects the string, check its recorded source status and whether you have already used it. Return to your session rather than cycling the same string through both interfaces.
2. Reach the fishing step before trying the chat example

- Start a solo or multiplayer run and upgrade the campfire to level 2, following PC Gamer's route.
- Find the Fishing Shack, pick up the Old Rod, and use it at a fishing hole. Prepare these steps before opening chat.
- While fishing, use experience chat for the source's 'yay fishing' example. Only attempt this if chat is available to your account.
- Check before moving on
- Check the chat response and your reward display during the fishing attempt. Being in the lobby or merely holding a rod does not complete the source-described sequence.
- If it does not match
- If the described location or interaction is no longer present, stop following this sequence and recheck the linked source. A game update may have changed the route.
3. Stop a fishing-code retry when chat or eligibility blocks it
Use this after reaching the fishing activity but receiving no visible reward.
- First check whether experience chat is available. The wiki says the fishing reward cannot be redeemed without chat; the normal Codes menu is not an alternative for this phrase.
- If chat is available, verify that you entered the phrase while fishing in the run, including its space, rather than from the lobby.
- Consider whether you already claimed this fishing reward. The wiki describes it as one-use, so repeating the phrase is not a source-backed way to earn it again.
- Check before moving on
- Distinguish unavailable chat, an incomplete fishing sequence, and a prior claim before deciding that the code itself is broken. No visible reward is not proof that every player can or cannot redeem it.
- If it does not match
- If chat is unavailable, leave this route unused and continue playing. Do not bypass account restrictions. If chat works and the steps match but no reward appears, record that result and recheck the source instead of promising yourself another payout.
